Why Holla My Friend....how are you today?
I'm so excited that you liked the bookmark from yesterday and as I had several emails asking how I made it I thought I would post a quick (yeah right....you know...there'll be lots of pics :) tutorial on how to make them. They truly are super fast & easy to make.
Here's what you'll need (All Stampin' Up!):
- Hodgepodge hardware (vanilla or styled silver)
- Ribbon of your choice (I recommend at least 5/8" - approx. 20" - 24" (depending how long you want your ribbon tails to be)
- Designer Label Punch
- Stamped image that will fit inside the hodgepodge hardware
- Some kind of fastner (ie. brads, eyelets, etc.)
- Crystal Effects
- Craft & Rubber Scissors
Step #1 - Using your Craft & Rubber Scissors cut off the ends of the Hardware that you would normally feed the brads through...
This is what the hardware should look like once you've cut off both ends...
Step #2 - Stamp out whatever image you'd like that will fit inside the frame of the hodgepodge. I made this bookmark for Mackenzie so I used "All in the Family" for her :)
Step #3 - Punch out your image using the Designer Label Punch (this punch fits PERFECTLY inside the hardware piece)
Step #4 - Run a line of Crystal Effects along both short ends of the hardware :)
Step #5 - Thread your ribbon around the bottom short end of the hardware (doesn't matter which end) and hold in place for a couple of minutes until the adhesive has grabbed the ribbon securely. You could use glue dots on the Styled Silver Hardware here but on the Vanilla the glue dots don't stick well because of the finish so you'd have to use Crystal Effects.
Step #6 - Run another bead of Crystal Effects on top of the ribbon so that the image will stick to the opposite short edge of the Hardware as well as the ribbon.
Step #7 - Press your image into the Crystal Effects both at the top of your hardware and along your ribbon....hold securely for a couple of minutes (it doesn't take long) BE SURE YOUR IMAGE IS FACING UPRIGHT SO THAT WHEN YOU TURN IT AROUND IT'S NOT UPSIDE DOWN....YES...THAT IS THE VOICE OF EXPERIENCE SPEAKING ....HEHEHE!
This is what it should look like from the front of your bookmark...
Step #8 - Fasten your brads or eyelets just below the hodgepodge hardware to keep the ribbon from slipping out of place. My brads are a little wonky because I sort of rushed to put them in but I have no doubt you'd be more careful :)
Here's a picture of the two bookmarks I've made so far....I love how differently they can look....one for a child and one for an adult.
And here's how I use it in my book...I put one of the tails of the ribbon on the page I'm on and the other tail on the next page after.
Here's what it looks like when the book is shut :) I actually just finished this book called "Wide Awake" by Erwin McManus...our home group did this book as our study for this session. He has some fantastic insights !
Okay...I couldn't leave you today without showing you this picture of Ella...I know...I know....I've been favouring her lately but I couldn't resist showing you this one. For Hallowe'en Jessica & Scott bought Ella a cow costume and she put her back in it yesterday....can you tell she wasn't too thrilled with it....but oh my gosh....how cute is this !!!! I promise I'll start taking more pics of Dawson or maybe even my children !!!
Thanks for swinging my way today...you're so kind to do that !!! If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial....fire away !!! Always happy to help !!!
Hug the ones you love :) !!!

OHH you amazing lady you!! I love it.. my SIL is a bookworm and I think I will make her one of these as a little gift for when I see her on Thanksgiving next week (I'm in NY)

Fantastic bookmarks girl!!! Wouldn't these be great to do for Chloe's class for a Christmas gift?! I like to give the kids things they can USE rather than toss away! TFS!
