As the work place grows thin we have more and more illegal immigrates doing construction jobs because of the hard manual labor involved. Along with the labor most trades are still considered skilled trades. Roofing for example requires a certain mind set. You must think about how water can travel. You must have the knowledge of the manufactures specifications for new roof installations.
Most schools teach only easy job trades with no manual labor. This will create an overcrowded workplace with tons of people with the same degrees all looking for jobs. There needs to be more construction trades looked at to help stimulate the American workplace.
Right now, even in a bad economy I can put out a help wanted ad for roofers and the only response you get are from very unskilled workers. Why not offer more emphasis on short term classes in the construction industry? Construction jobs are out there and will continue to grow. Most construction jobs are looked at as unsuccessful career path. People will always need a roofer or a plumber, carpenter etc…
I think construction trades should change to a high level of acknowledgment and this will lead to many more jobs in the workplace. The construction industry is looked at as a dead end job that’s why we should focus on more benefits such as 401K for construction workers. I feel I should not have to turn to hiring illegal immigrates to get the job done. With many people out of a job in the pot it’s very hard to find good skilled workers in the roofing industry. Why?
